Mural Work
Ben's Bells is an organization in Tucson dedicated to inspiring, educating and motivating each other to realize the impact of intentional kindness and to empower individuals to act according to that awareness, thereby changing the world.
Jeanette Mare-Packard, the force behind the group, brought Isaiah Zagar to town for a week in December, 2009, to create the first of hopefully many Kindness Murals to be realized near the University of Arizona area. You can see that particular work just south of Tyndall and University Blvd in Tucson.
Mackender has been a fan of Isaiah's work for many years so felt fortunate to be able to sign on to work alongside the master and other Tucson artists last December to realize the first mural.
Mackender was the lead artist on the next phase of the Kindness Corridor installed May 17 and 18, 2010. The site is the Winset Park performance stage at 316 N 4th Avenue in Tucson. Many other mosaic artists volunteered their time to help complete the piece so quickly along with students from TUSD (Tucson Unified School District). There will be an official unveiling and celebration on Friday, May 28 from 4-6pm.
The photos below show Mackender with the finished work as well as a detail.

On Sunday, December 13, Mackender, along with his wife Connie Colbert, drove Isaiah to Phoenix to check out a mural that was commissioned by the Phoenix Arts Commission a few years back. Here are the videos of that great adventure.
